Utsira lighthouse in Rogaland

The sea, the sky, the sound and light. The municipality of Utsira offer an artist residency at the lighthouse station area off the coast southwest of Norway. Utsira lighthouse is part of the National Plan for Preservation of Lighthouses in Norway. The lighthouse area is preserved under the Norwegian Cultural Heritage Act.

Accommodation
The apartment is in a semi-detached house with 2 bedrooms with linen (4 beds), fully equipped kitchen, living room, 1 working/exhibition room and bathroom. The house was built in the fifties but are fully restored.

Studio / workspace
One large working room that can also be used as an exhibition room.

Location
Utsira is the smallest municipality in Norway, with approximately 215 inhabitants. The lighthouse area is situated on a hill on the northwest side of the Utsira island, approximately 18 km west of Haugesund. The area is 2 km from the departure point for the ferry, it is possible to drive by car to the house.

Paid by the artist/provided by the programme
The artist pay a fee for accommodation and cleaning. One day NOK 600, weekend (friday to sunday) NOK 1200, week NOK 2500, month NOK 6000. Cleaning and linen included. Part of the fee can be compensated for for by giving a public performance. Expences such as living costs, travel, materials, insurance and transport must be covered by the artist. The artist must apply for possible funding from her / his own home country. There are no Norwegian funding related to this residency.

Application criteria
Artists in any media can apply. Artists must present a CV showing former exhibitions and work as well as an artist statement. Membership in an artist organisation is preferred.
