Hordaland Art Centre, Bergen

HORDALAND ART CENTRE based in Bergen, Norway, was established 1976 as the first artist run art centre in Norway. It's activities are based around the exhibition programme with equal emphasis on seminars, presentations and dialogue. Since 1987 HORDALAND ART CENTRE has hosted a Nordic residency programme, from 2008 also open to international artists, curators, writers and other art professionals. HORDALAND ART CENTRE BOOKSHOP carries a broad range of magazines and books dealing with contemporary art and culture. HORDALAND ART CENTRE is situated in one of the oldest remaining school buildings in Bergen where we focus on local commitment in an international every day.

Accommodation
The resident at Hordaland Art Centre lives in a residential area in the centre of Bergen in a first floor flat with balcony, consisting of bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room. The flat is fully furnished and equipped with kitchenware and bedclothes. The flat is about seven minutes walk from the Art Centre.

Studio and technical info
The residency studio is located in the Art Centre. There is wifi-internet access in the studio included. The resident must bring their own computer.

Location
All facilities are in the city centre of Bergen.

Paid by the artist / provided by the programme
Hordaland Art Centre covers return travel, accommodation, studio, electricity and a grant towards covering the high living expenses in Norway. Successful candidates are encouraged to apply for additional funding.

Application criteria
Applications are assessed and chosen by a jury on the basis of merit, and the ability Hordaland Art Centre has to support the proposed research or project.
The residency is supported by Hordaland county and the Nordic Cuture Point and divided accordingly:
To be eligible for the Nordic residency, supported by Nordic Culture Point, you are a professional working artist, curator, contemporary art writer, critic or researcher from one of the Nordic (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Greenland or the Faroe Islands) or Baltic (Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania) countries, or based professionally in one of these countries. To be eligible for the International residency, supported by Hordaland County, you are a professional working artist, curator, contemporary art writer, critic or researcher from any country.

Hordaland Art Centre is ONLY open for applications when there is an open call, announced on www.kunstsenter.no.

It is expected that the resident gives a public presentation/talk at the Hordaland Art Centre during the residency.
