Førde is a main hub for transport in the region of Sogn og Fjordane (S&F)


BY PLANE

Domestic flights from Oslo and Bergen operated by Widerøe, see www.wideroe.no. The airport, called Bringeland, is situated 6 km outside of Førde town. Also domestic flights from Oslo and Bergen to Florø town, situated on the coast of S&F. These flights are operated by Danish Air, see www.dat.dk.

BY BOAT
No boat directly from Bergen to Førde. Daily express boat from Bergen, stops in Florø town 57 km from Førde. The express boats are operated by Fjord1, and serve travellers and ports all along the coast from Bergen to the northern part of S&F, Nordfjord. Schedules and information on www.fjord1.no. Bus-service from all ports along the coast to destinations in S&F county.

BY TRAIN
No direct train to destinations in Sogn & Fjordane. Take the train from Bergen or Oslo to Myrdal station, change train to terminal Flåm. Buses from Flåm to destinations throughout the county. For train schedules, see www.nsb.no. For bus schedules, se www.fjord1.no.

BY BUS
Long distance express buses to Førde and other destinations in S&F operates from Bergen (3 hours 40 min), Trondheim (10 hours) and Oslo (9 hours). Schedules on www.nor-way.no. Local bus routes on www.fjord1.no.

BY CAR
From Oslo: Take E16 north from Oslo, change to Rv5 just after Lærdal, ferry from Fadnes to Mannheller, continue on Rv5 to Jølster. From Jølster E39 to Førde. Total distance 459 km, 7 hours 30 min.

From Bergen: Follow E39 north from Bergen to Førde. Tunnels and ferry crossing the Sognefjord. Distance 178 km, 3 hours.

IMPORTANT: Please consider the weather conditions when driving in the winter (nov - march). Do not drive on ice and snow without proper winter tyres. Drive with great carefulness. Frontlights are mandatory, day and nights, even in summer. Though status as main roads such as E39 and Rv5, norwegian roads may sometimes have low standards. Drivers should be prepared of curvy and narrow roads, dark tunnels, snow and ice, early winter darkness, road closures and ferry crossings. Do not overrestimate your driving skills - please keep to the speed limits, and lower when necessary.
